VOLUNTEER ASSISTANT OMBUDSMEN

Volunteer Assistant Ombudsmen are available to provide hands-on self advocacy assistance for individuals in need of mental health services, for whom this level of consumer advocacy is appropriate. They provide information and coaching to clients requesting assistance, and complete intake forms and other required documentation.

When a situation requires a more involved intervention to investigate and resolve an issue, the Volunteer Assistant Ombudsmen contacts the professional Mental Health Ombudsmen.

Volunteer Assistant Ombudsmen also provide community outreach efforts by distributing brochures and posters, manning educational display booths at conferences, and presenting at local organizations. They participate in ongoing training to enhance their skills as Volunteer Assistant Ombudsmen, and are supervised by the professional Mental Health Ombudsman.

If you would like assistance from a Volunteer Mental Health Ombudsman or are interested in volunteering, call the Mental Health Ombudsman Program at (307) 632-5519 in Cheyenne or toll-free at (888) 857-1942.
